What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is like a special kind of integration for AI platforms. The RocketReach MCP provides access for your AI tool so it can lookup RocketReach verified data inside a chat or an agentic workflow. This can help you explore in familiar terms, develop concepts, and execute faster.

How are credits used with MCP?

MCP always uses credits. Every person or company record you access through MCP counts as an export activity, and export activity is never free — including on plans with Unlimited Lookups.

Which credit is charged depends on your plan:

If your plan includes Export Credits — Unlimited Lookup Annual Plans, Custom, and API plans — MCP draws from your Export Credit balance.
If your plan meters lookups instead — free accounts, Base, and monthly paid plans — MCP draws from your Lookup Credit balance.

Either way, the same rules apply:

One credit per record that returns verified contact information. If no verified email address or phone number is found, no credit is used.
Credits are used only the first time you access a record. Accessing the same record again does not charge you twice.
Accessing a contact costs one credit whether it has an email address, a phone number, or both. Phone data does not cost extra.

To check your balance, ask your AI tool “check my available RocketReach credits” for a live figure.

Credits used through MCP cannot be refunded or replaced, including when they are spent accidentally or by someone else using your connection. Check your balance before running a large request.

API customers with Universal Credits: MCP is not currently supported on your account. Contact your Account Manager.

I’m on an Unlimited Lookup plan. Do MCP lookups cost me credits?

Yes. Unlimited Lookups covers the Get Contact Info button in the web app and the Add button in the browser extension. MCP is an export activity, so it draws on your Export Credits — and those are limited.

Does MCP return phone numbers as well as email addresses?

MCP returns whatever data your plan unlocks. If your plan includes phone data, you can ask your AI tool for a contact’s email and phone number together — for example, “use RocketReach and get their email and mobile phone number” If your plan covers email only, MCP returns email addresses.

Do I need a specific plan to use MCP?

No, all you need is a RocketReach account. Access to the MCP Server is not restricted to a particular plan, and the credits on your plan determine how much data you can access through it.

On the AI side, free users of ChatGPT and Claude can connect and use MCP. Other providers may require a paid subscription — check your provider’s documentation.

How is MCP different from using the RocketReach web app?

The underlying data is the same. What differs is how you ask for it and how it comes back. Through MCP your AI tool decides how to phrase the request and present the answer, which helps when you have a loose idea or need context RocketReach does not hold.

The web app is better when you want precise control over search filters, or when you need to review and download your contact history.

Does MCP work the same in all AI tools?

Functionally yes, but each AI platform handles prompts differently, so the same prompt can produce different results in different tools. In our testing, Claude performed best on complex requests and on asking useful clarifying questions.

Can MCP be used for enrichment?

Yes. Enrichment means adding or updating data on a list you already have. Through an AI tool this works best for a specific person or a few people you have just found in the chat — tell the AI something like “use RocketReach and get their email and mobile phone number.”

For a larger list, the Upload List tool in the web app is better suited to bulk enrichment.

Is MCP a good tool for bulk data?

Not for large volumes. Your AI tool can access up to 100 contacts at a time through MCP, and because data is re-verified as it is retrieved, this can take a few minutes.

For more than 100 contacts at a time, switch to the web app and use Autopilot. It is faster, more reliably returns all relevant contacts, and offers options MCP does not — limiting contacts per company, repeating on a schedule, or adding results to a Sequence. Autopilot is also an export activity, so it uses Export Credits at the same rate.

Is there a log of contacts and credits used by MCP?

Yes. Every contact you reveal through any RocketReach tool is saved to My Contacts in the web app. Contacts accessed through MCP are tagged with “MCP Lookups” and the name of the AI app, so you can filter for them.

For credit usage, go to Account Settings and download a credit usage report. The report has columns specifically for MCP.

Can I connect MCP to more than one account?

You can have several MCP connections to one RocketReach user account at the same time. All active connections are listed on your RocketReach MCP page.

We do not recommend sharing your RocketReach subscription with other people through MCP. You are responsible for any credits used through your connections, and credits used this way cannot be refunded.

Can I limit how many credits MCP uses?

Not within RocketReach — there is currently no way to set a credit limit per MCP connection.

Both ChatGPT and Claude have a setting requiring confirmation before an action runs. Choosing a more restrictive setting such as “Always Ask” prompts you before credits are spent. Some people find this slows them down in practice.

Can I stop people at my company using MCP?

Not from RocketReach. The control sits with your AI provider — check their documentation for how to restrict which MCP connections your staff can add.

Is using MCP compliant with GDPR?

This depends on how your organisation uses the data, so we cannot give a general answer. If GDPR compliance matters to your organisation, consult your internal experts.
